This template defines the table "Substitutions". View table.

Substitution rule

Place these on the page of the ingredient being replaced, inside a table. Each call is one row: one option, for all roles (leave role blank) or for one specific job the ingredient does in a recipe (role=creaming). A role row overrides the blank row's fields for that role only; set applicable=no on a role row to remove the option for that role.

{| class="wikitable rp-rules"
! Use instead !! When its job is !! How much !! Confidence !! What changes
{{Substitution|to=Margarine|ratio=1|confidence=high|effect=Nearly identical result.}}
{{Substitution|to=Olive oil|ratio=0.75|confidence=medium|effect=Use ¾ the amount.|warning=Oil cannot be creamed.}}
{{Substitution|to=Olive oil|role=melted|confidence=high|effect=Use ¾ the amount; mix with the wet ingredients.}}
{{Substitution|to=Olive oil|role=dressing|applicable=no}}

Fields: to (ingredient page), alt (a variant name, e.g. "Bottled lemon juice"), role, ratio (multiply the original quantity), conv (free-text conversion when a ratio isn't enough, e.g. "1 tbsp per egg + 3 tbsp water"), confidence (high / medium / low), effect, warning, applicable.
